ABOUT ME

Hi!

Nice that you landed here and found my website. My name is Sascha Fliegener (the perfect name, because "fliegen" means "to fly" in German). I'm 29 years old and fly model airplanes since I was 11.

I was born in Saarbrücken, which is located in the southwest corner of Germany, pretty close to France. A few years ago, I began to study mechanical engineering in Karlsruhe and after finishing it successfully I moved to Freiburg to work at a Fraunhofer-institute.

After the first steps with smaller sailplanes and electric gliders I got involved with the indoor scene. This was a long time before lipo batteries and brushless outrunners were available. So indoor-aerobatics was a very experimental thing and I was fascinated by developing this further. The planes had a weight of about 350g, you could fly for ca. 1 minute and a torque-roll was a real sensation at those times. I collected a lot of information on this website - that's actually the reason for the URL slow-flyer.com. I sold a lot of kits of my planes Monsoon, SlowRide, FunExtra and EdgeTreme all over the world. A lot of people still know my constructions. I was very active in the indoor competition scene and I had some really good placements at german or international championsships.

Actually, I dedicated much more to the "bigger birds" and I'm real active in 3D- and Show-flying. But I also like flying competitions and so I participated several times in the German Acro Masters, the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout and the Italian TOC.

I am a Team-Pilot of CARF-Models and I design their website as a side-job. I did an internship at Desert Aircraft in Tucson/AZ and lived there for about 7 months. I'm writing a lot of reviews and articles for the german modeling magazine "Modell" of Neckar-Verlag.

That's pretty much all the important stuff about my model airplane career. Thanks for reading and always good landings!

Sascha
